The lovely Gloria already posted some of my drawings of the Light Grey Art Lab Iceland Residency in her recap yesterday. I’m not good expressing things, so I don’t even try to put the experience into words. I just say that I met so many wonderful people, was amazed by the incredible landscape and got super motivated to draw and create. So thank you so much to all the people involved, especially Lindsay, Jenny and Chris!
Some words to the drawings: we were driving around in two cars so I spent most of the driving time drawing this little thumbnails of landscapes we drove by. My friends Martin and Sebastian do this alot on train rides and I got inspired by them to sketch on moving vehicles too.
The watercolor sketches were painted from mind, after we came back from our long day trips. I simply wanted to remember all those beautiful color combinations that I saw on the road.
The little two portraits are of Colin and Gloria, that I’ve drawn quickly on the first or second day.
candycoatedviolence said: I just stumbled upon your work and I love love love your illustrations. What medium do you use for the coloured illustrations, if i may ask. Is it digital? :D Thanks for taking the time to answer!
Yes, it is Photoshop CS5 and I’m drawing on a Cintiq 24hd. I’m glad you like them!
I didn’t feel so good yesterday, so I decided to take the day off from working on my comic and draw something quick for fun.

With love, patience and a little bit of cinnamon!
Finally something I can show from last year! I drew these illustrations for the May/June issue of American Girl.
They were for a story about two girls having a falling out over e-mail while they are both away from home over the summer. One of the girls goes to a leadership camp called “Girls take charge”and the other one goes camping with her family.
There were more illustrations in the story, but I only show the first page (the free space above the characters was for the type) and some of the smaller illustrations here.
It was a very lovely experience working with the guys from American Girl! Many thanks to AD Dan Nordskog!
A little drawing of Mechthild, one of the female side characters of Mawil’s great new comic book “Kinderland”. It’s about a boy, a ping pong contest and the last days of East Germany in 1989.
Sorry for not posting much more these days, still busy working on the comic book…all I have time for are quick studies in the mornings.
Thinking about making this dress…
Featured Artist: Interview with Maike Plenzke
YouTheDesigner has the amazing opportunity to interview freelance illustrator, Maike Plenzke.
Hey guys, here is an interview, if you’re into this kind of stuff.
It might also explain a tiny bit, why there aren’t so many illustrations on this blog lately. (Short answer: no time, no time!)
Happy Valentines Day!
This was a little card for a pig-themed memory-card-game for a friend that I drew last year. He wanted to surprise his girlfriend with the game and I think he also did a very good job with the packaging. You can see the whole game here on Simon’s blog.
